10 impossible things daily...

“Alice laughed. ‘There’s no use trying,’ she said. ‘One can’t believe impossible things.’ I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Sometimes, being…

What does an artist do?

“Art isn’t only a painting. Art is anything that’s creative, passionate, and personal. And great art resonates with the viewer, not only with the creator. What makes someone an artist? I don’t think is has anything to do with a paintbrush. There are painters who follow the numbers, or paint…

From Bauhaus to our house

O Beautiful, for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, has there ever been another place on earth where so many people of wealth and power have paid for and put up with so much architecture they detested as within thy blessed borders? I doubt it seriously. Every child goes…

How to improve a system?

“STEP 1. Identify the system’s bottlenecks. (After all it wasn’t too difficult to identify the oven and the NCX10 as the bottlenecks of the plant.) STEP 2. Decide how to exploit the bottlenecks. (That was fun. Realizing that those machines should not take a lunch break, etc.) STEP 3. Subordinate everything else to the above decision. (Making sure that everything marches to the tune of the constraints. The red and green tags.)

On Chasing Happiness

“Whatever makes you happy, you go do it” The pursuit of happiness makes the chase worth it, not acquiring the object of desire itself. When you have 15 mins. on the clock and you can go get a cupcake at the nearby store and you time yourself that you will get it and eat it and come back on time, the cupcake, being the object of desire itself loses its power. It’s all the things you did to reach that goal is what made it all worth it.

Do something creative, today.

A creative person needs to make art like a fish needs water, or a tree needs to dig its roots deep into the ground. As a creative person, you owe it to yourself to make art. Making art is not a service you render to the public or the economy. Your art makes you money, congratulations, you must be one of the lucky few. Your art is for yourself, when you share it you are communicating and if it resonates with others it means it’s being breathed life into, that’s the origin of the word to be inspired.

Commitment and sacrifice.

Often times there are so many options to choose from that it doesn’t feel like freedom, instead, the burden is on the one who chooses, who would have to take the responsibility of making the choice that would be better or worse. Then there is always buyer’s remorse. Even after making that choice one would keep thinking, second-guessing “what if I made the wrong choice?” At times like that, one would fail to even experience the choice currently made.

Pushing the limits of responsibility.

Creative people explore things laterally, and this gives them a scope of thinking outside the box. However, where creative people lack the most is in implementation and discipline. One way creative people can rectify this is by taking on more responsibility and accountability to push their discipline muscle to the limit. Doing this will help them be consistent with their workload. To a creative person making art is what’s most important and they will do anything they can to achieve this.
